Three Coins

The three coins are the most common way to consult the I Ching. You toss three coins six times, and each toss gives you one line of the hexagram, from the bottom up.

Each coin counts as 2 if it lands tails and 3 if it lands heads. The sum of the three is 6, 7, 8 or 9. A 7 is a steady yang line and an 8 is a steady yin line. A 9 is a changing yang and a 6 is a changing yin: these are the lines that change, and they give the reading its own text.

Here you do not have to toss anything: the site simulates the tosses with the same odds that three real coins would have. Ask your question calmly, press once so the site generates the six lines, and notice which ones are changing. If you prefer to toss real coins, use the manual method and mark the result here.
