55 豐 Fēng Abundance

Judgement

You are at a moment of fullness: the sun is at its highest. Do not worry that it will change: be like the noonday sun, which lights everyone. It is a good time, and a short one. Enjoy it without clinging, and offer what you have while it shines. Ask yourself what you could share now, since abundance allows it and tomorrow it may not.

Image

Thunder and lightning together: the noise and the light. The wise person decides lawsuits and hands out penalties with exactness. When there is clarity and strength, they must be used with precision: no more harshness than needed, no less softness than needed. Ask yourself whether, in your present decisions, your strength and your clarity go together, and where one of the two is missing.

Lines

Line 1

You meet your partner, even though you are alike in character, and you are unlikely to go wrong. Moving ahead deserves approval. Here, meeting someone akin is good. They need not be different from you to add something. Ask yourself with whom you agree enough to advance together.

Line 2

Screens so thick surround you that at noon you see the stars of the Dipper. If you try to enlighten the one in command, they may view you with suspicion. Cultivate sincere loyalty: you may move their spirit, and that is a good sign. Ask yourself whether what blocks your light is a wall or only a screen.

Line 3

A big, thick banner stands before you, and at noon you see the tiny star Mei. In the dark you break your right arm, but you are unlikely to be at fault. It is an injury that limits you without erasing you. Ask yourself how to go on with what you still have.

Line 4

In a tent so big and thick that at noon you see the stars of the Dipper, you meet someone as steady as you, and it tends to go well. In darkness, the right company may appear. You need not see all clearly to advance with them. Ask yourself who came close to you in the middle of your confusion.

Line 5

You gather around you people of great talent. There is reason for congratulation and praise, and it tends to go well. Surrounding yourself with those who know more is a sign of security, not weakness. Ask yourself whom you have left out for fear of being outshone.

Line 6

Your house has grown large, but it only serves as a screen for your own people. You look at your door: it is quiet and nobody is there. For three years nobody is seen. That tends to end badly. Ask yourself what you have built that cuts you off from others.

Reflection

  1. What can you share now, while abundance allows it?
  2. What limits you today, and how can you go on with what you still have?
  3. Whom have you left out for fear of being outshone?
