19 臨 Approach
Judgement
Something is approaching and growing: a person, a project, a better time. There is great progress, as long as you stay firm and upright. But remember that after a while, in the eighth month, the situation may change and turn adverse. Do not fall asleep in the good moment. Make use of what is opening now, tend to it with care, and remember that every approach has its cycle.
Image
Over the lake, the earth leans toward the water. This is the image of someone who draws near to care, without raising their voice. The wise person has an inexhaustible teaching and supports people without limit. That is the attitude: offering attention without hurry or fatigue, lasting longer than the enthusiasm of the first day. Ask yourself how you can accompany others in a way that does not wear out.
Lines
Line 1
You move forward alongside another person, in the same direction. If you stay firm and upright, it works in your favor. Your will is set on doing the right thing, and that holds you up. What helps most here is not hurry but honest company. Ask yourself with whom you are moving forward and whether your direction is the same.
Line 2
You move forward alongside another person, and everything tends to go well. Those ahead of you have not yet bent to what is coming, and that leaves room to advance. Do not consider the situation closed. Make use of the margin that remains, and ask yourself what you can move today while it still gives.
Line 3
You like moving forward and you do it gladly, but this does not suit you: it is not your proper place. If you begin to worry about what you are doing, you are unlikely to go wrong. Unease is a good symptom here: it makes you review. Ask yourself whether your enthusiasm has run ahead of your judgment.
Line 4
You approach in the highest and best way, with respect and devotion, with no ulterior motive. You are unlikely to go wrong. It is an approach without calculation, expecting nothing. If you want to approach someone or something, let it be face to face, sincerely. Ask yourself whether anything in what you do is not entirely clean.
Line 5
You move forward with wisdom, as befits someone with responsibility. It tends to go well. Wisdom here means knowing how to delegate, listen and recognize those who know more than you in each task. Ask yourself where you would do well to trust others more, and when you are taking on too much.
Line 6
You approach with honesty and generosity. That is a good sign, and you are unlikely to go wrong. It is the fullest form of approach: with no self-interest and an open hand. Expect nothing in return. Ask yourself what you can give without accounts or conditions, and whether someone could use your sincerity now, even if they have not asked.
Reflection
- What is coming into your life that needs your attention now?
- With whom are you moving forward, and is your direction the same?
- What can you give today without expecting anything in return?
