2 坤 The Receptive
Judgement
Here strength does not push: it supports. It is firm like a mare, resilient and gentle, able to carry much without breaking. If you take the initiative now, you may easily lose your way; if you accompany and respond to what is already under way, you may find whom or what to follow. You may gain company on one side and lose it on another; not everyone can go with you. Stay with what is right, unhurried, and let what you care for ripen in its own time.
Image
The earth supports everything on it and asks for nothing. It does not choose what to carry: it receives the seed and the stone, the tree and the person who cuts it down. That is the breadth you are asked to practice now. Make room for others, for their projects and their clumsiness, without turning it into currency. Supporting others does not make you small; it makes you ground. And the ground, without making a sound, is what lets everything else grow.
Lines
Line 1
You step on frost. It is still a small thing, it melts when you touch it, but it announces the ice to come. What is now a small sign, a cold gesture or a minor lapse, can harden if you let it run its course. Do not panic, but do not look away either: pay attention to what is beginning.
Line 2
Straight, square, wide: that is the ground where you stand. You do not need to force anything or repeat efforts to make things work. Do what falls to you naturally, without calculation or artifice, and let the result come on its own. Simplicity well rooted has its own reach, and it is often greater than you imagine.
Line 3
You keep what you are worth without showing it, yet you do not stop supporting it. If you work for others or inside a project that is not yours, do your part well and do not claim the credit. It may seem unfair, but bringing things safely home without needing applause is a kind of worth that few people have.
Line 4
A closed sack. Keep what is yours; show nothing, offer nothing, go unnoticed. Do not expect recognition, but blame is unlikely to reach you either. There are seasons when discretion is the only sensible move, and this looks like one. Close up a little, without bitterness, and wait for the mood to change.
Line 5
You wear a yellow garment underneath, the color of the earth in the least visible place. You have real influence, perhaps more than you appear to have, and you use it without display. Do not change that. Modesty from a position of weight is rare and opens doors that vanity closes. What you are doing works; keep going.
Line 6
Dragons fight in the open field; their blood is dark and yellow, of heaven and of earth. You have stepped out of your role and face a fight that is not yours. What you win this way will likely cost too much. If everything has become a power struggle, ask who brought you here and return to your place.
Reflection
- Whom or what are you accompanying right now, and do you do it out of conviction or out of habit?
- What small sign have you been seeing for a while and prefer not to take seriously?
- What part of your work do you do well without anyone knowing, and how do you feel about that?
